MAPPING THE STRAITS OF MACKINAC

The NOAA Office of Coastal Survey (OCS) is in the midst of a five month, 317 square mile, survey project focusing on the Straits of Mackinac. The shallow and nearshore areas will be mapped by NOAA assests while a contractor takes care of the deeper areas. OCS will be updating the National Ocean Service nautical charting products, producing new high-resolution bathymetric surveys, and providing data to the NOAA Great Lakes Environmental Research Lab for habitat and ecosystem modeling efforts.
